Ubuntu is a popular Linux distro that is very stable and feature rich. Most Linux new comers try Ubuntu as their first linux operating system. But when we move from Windows to the Linux world in PC computing we get confused about partitioning the hard disk and the requirement.

In this tutorial we will learn how to install Ubuntu on a new PC with standard Partition Scheme.
1. Download and burn the iso with some software like unetbootin.
2. Plugin the usb drive and boot.
3. Click on the "Install Ubuntu"
4. Select keyboard Layout and click on "Continue".

5. Click "continue". I have unchecked the option "Download updates while installing ubuntu" to make the installation process faster. Ofcourse we can update the softwares after the installation is complete.
6. On the following screen choose "Something else" and select continue.

7. Select the hard drive and Click on "New Partition Table".

8. Confirm by selecting "Continue".

9. Select "free space" and click on the "+" button.

10. Create the root partition. Use at least 5000 MB space. I have chose 6000 MB. But I would recommend using 15~20 GB if you are going to use it on a daily basis. Select the mount point "/".
This partition is compulsory.

11. Create a home partition. (Optional) Recommended.

12. Create a swap partition. But this is no longer a necessary. (Optional)

  13. Select the entire drive and Click on "Install Now".

14. Confirm and after finishing the installation reboot your PC. Before rebooting unplug the usb drive.
